It seems that Netflix India is all set for a massive revamp after losing lakhs of subscribes over the last few months. If reports are to be believed, the streaming website has become quite ruthless as it has backed out some very expensive projects after not being satisfied with the content. The recent one to be chopped down from its association is said to an Abbas-Mustan film titled Penthouse featuring stars like Bobby Deol and Arjun Rampal and also a horror-comedy.
A report by Peeping Moon quoted a source stating, "Netflix has backed out of Penthouse, starring Bobby Deol, Arjun Rampal, and Sharman Joshi. The OTT service is no longer putting up any projects that don't meet their expectations and is instead lining up projects that are packed with only global-standard content. They are scrapping all the projects that haven't turned out as envisioned. Abbas-Mustan's Penthouse was a keenly-awaited, high-profile project that promised to be a slick and stylish whodunit that would keep the viewers on the edge of their seats till the very end. But that hasn't translated well on screen, and hence Netflix has decided to not premiere it even though they had announced the film amidst much fanfare last March.”
While not much was revealed about the horror comedy that Netflix has decided to dissociate itself with, it is being said in these reports that this project was backed by a renowned Bollywood banner. In fact, an announcement about it was made last year and it was expected to release on Netflix in the second quarter of this year but it seems that the streaming website was not convinced with the film.
Netflix India will be undergoing an extensive renovation when it comes to its content considering the subscribers it lost during the start of 2022. On the other hand, speaking of Penthouse, the film is said to be an Indian remake of the Belgian film Loft (2014) which dealt with infidelity, murder, and betrayal.
