Shocking! Ramesh Sippy’s film Shimla Mirch goes straight to OTT

While producers RSVP’s colourful musical extravaganza Bhangra Paa Le was wrongly being reported as going to the streaming platform, it is being released on January 3 in theatres across India, another talked-about film is not quite that lucky on the same Friday.

Shocking! Ramesh Sippy’s film Shimla Mirch goes straight to OTT

Unknown to anyone associated with the film the producers Viacom 18 have decided to release Ramesh Sippy’s Shimla Mirch, Sippy’s first directorial venture in 24 years, on Netflix. Neither the director nor the principal members of the cast Hema Malini and Rajkummar Rao were taken into confidence on the release platform.

A source close to Ramesh Sippy says the veteran director of Sholay is mighty miffed, “Viacom 18 has taken the decision (to release Shimla Mirch on the digital platform) on their own. Rameshji had no say in the matter. He made the film in 2014 at a meagre budget of 16-17 crores. It was meant to be a small sweet romantic film set in Shimla. Rameshji handed over the film to the producers in 2015. Just why they sat on it for 4 years and why they’ve decided to not give it a theatrical release is not explained. It isn’t as if small-town romances don’t work in theatres. Viacom themselves have released several such films. Recent films like Luka Chuppi and Pati Patni Aur Woh have done well. Then why this stepmotherly treatment to  Shimla Mirch?”

A true gentleman, Ramesh Sippy has decided to stay quiet on the matter. All he will say is, “I am very proud of Shimla Mirch, and I’m glad it’s finally being released. The platform and format of release is the producers’ decision.”

Saqib Saleem, who is giving finishing touches to his performance in what is undoubtedly 2020's most anticipated film - '83,  is absolutely excited to play Mohinder Amarnath in the upcoming Ranveer Singh starrer. But the reason is not just limited to him being part of this iconic project but for what it means to him personally. Talking about wanting to be a cricketer growing up, Saqib says, "Doing '83 was almost like an act of fate. I grew up playing cricket wanting to go pro. I played State level U-19 but that was that. When I decided to become an actor, I knew that life was going to take a whole new path. When I heard about Kabir sir casting for 83, I chased him to ensure I was able to atleast audition." Nora Fatehi turns up the heat with Marjaavaan's new song Ek Toh Kum Zindagani!

Nora Fatehi turns up the heat with Marjaavaan's new song Ek Toh Kum Zindagani! Nora Fatehi's sizzling dance moves in chartbusters including 'Dilbar' ( Satyameva Jayate ) and 'Saki Saki' ( Batla House ) among others has made her a household name in a short span of time. The gorgeous actress, who wants to create a niche for herself as a talented actress, has been focusing more on performance-oriented roles, like last seen in Batla House starring John Abraham. Interestingly, one of the major reasons why Nora agreed to do the song 'Ek Toh Kum Zindagani' in Marjaavaan without charging any money is because she feels obliged to filmmaker Nikkhil Advani and producer Bhushan Kumar who offered her the song 'Dilbar' in Satyameva Jayate, considered to be a turning point in her career. Nora has always been grateful and humbled by the opportunity Nikkhil Advani and Bhushan Kumar have given her with both 'Dilbar' and 'Saki Saki' and s...
